There are times when attention begins to move without a clear signal.
One moment, it rests on a task, a conversation, or a simple detail in front of it.
Then it shifts.
Not because something else has demanded it.
Not because the previous moment has ended.
It simply drifts.
A nearby sound becomes noticeable. A small movement in the corner of a room appears. A thought passes through without settling. The focus that seemed steady a moment before becomes lighter, less fixed.
Nothing has interrupted the scene.
The surroundings remain the same.
Still, attention moves through them in a different way, touching one thing and then another without staying for long.
After a while, it settles again, though not always where it began.
