This reflection is from Curio Lab.

Why do we sometimes adjust our position slightly when near others without noticing why?

A brief note

Small shifts in position can happen quietly when others are nearby.

Deep reflection

In shared spaces, position is not always fixed.

A step moves slightly to one side. A shoulder turns just enough to create space. A pause appears before passing through a narrow area. A small adjustment happens without being planned.

These changes are often minimal.

They do not interrupt what is happening.

They do not draw attention to themselves.

Still, they occur.

Not as deliberate actions, and not as clear decisions, but as small shifts that seem to take place on their own.

The presence of others is part of the moment, even when no direct interaction happens.

The arrangement of people in a space continues to change in quiet ways, forming and reforming without pause.

After a while, the movement continues forward, and the adjustments disappear into the flow of everything else.

Nothing remains from them, yet they were part of how the moment was held.

Some movements seem to adjust themselves without being asked to.
