Why do certain memories return when we least expect them?

Sometimes, a memory appears without being called.

There is no effort to recall it. No clear intention.

It may begin with something small.

A sound. A smell. A passing image.

Then, suddenly, something from another time becomes present again.

The moment is brief.

It does not always arrive with strong emotion.

Sometimes it is simply there, as if it had been waiting quietly.

The memory may not stay for long.

It passes in the same way it appeared, without needing to be held.

Afterward, the present returns as it was.

And the moment continues forward.

Some memories arrive quietly and leave without a trace.
